"I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but
be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect." Romans 12:1-2 ESV
Chicuque Rural Hospital
Advancing Hope Through Promotion Of Health in Mozambique
The intensification of community involvement in health promotion is a key element for the
success of medical care. The african culture is very strong in traditional medicine. Many
people will come to the hospital after they have visited a traditional doctor (healers)
where they begin the treatment of whaterver ailments they have. When solution is not
found, people will seek help at a health facility, in which case, they will still secretely use
traditional drugs simultaneously with conventional medicine. Many children have died
because of that mixture. Many pregnant women have lost babies due to mixture of
conventional medicine and traditional drugs. Sadly enough, often times family members
will smuggle a family member from the hospital to go attend traditional medicine.
The tardiness in looking for medical care and the general tendency of self-medication are
practices that contributes to the needless degradation of health status of many people in
our communities. In order to mitigate these  problems, the hospital staff periodically work
in and within the communities.
During the this period, the hospital staff conducted health education, dental checkups,
blood pressure checkups,  immunizations, familly planning, HIV testing and counseling.
The communities welcomes our hospital teams and we look forward to continuing to work
with the communities.
