Chicuque Rural Hospital
Advancing Hope Through Promotion Of Health in Mozambique
Matthew 16:26 ESV
"For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what shall a man give in return for his soul?"

In 2008 the Desert Sky United Methodist Church granted scholarship for two
persons to attend Africa University in order to start building the core staff
members for the Center of Hope. Jose Jamisse Gume started out first in the
Fall of 2008 and Ilda followed in 2009. They both graduated in May of 2012.
They have returned to Chicuque and are presently the two handling heaviest
load of mental health at the Hospital. On regular basis, each one sees about
20 outpatients a day and they take calls in the wards. Jose Gume takes calls
for Surgical ward and Internal Medicine, wheareas Ilda takes calls from
Pediatrics and Maternity and the two share the emergency room. Their biggist
volume of patients are, in fact, the AIDS patients. They do they screening of
patients that start Antiretroviral treatment and they make the follow up with
patients running away from the program. They also have had consultations
with hospital staff.
Their training was a great support to our work and they make an astronomical
difference. Despite not having salaries for many months, they dilligently
continue to serve and help a great number of people. Their work has
contributed to the high recognitions that the Hospital received. Anyone willing
to support the Psychologists please take a look at the
Table of Priorities for
Gift designations. It takes about $26,000 to sustain two Psychologists per
year. When donating for this purpose, please make it explicit that "
